(Parara, Pachyptila vittata, broad-billed prion, Otaki Beach, New Zealand, 16 July 2011)
A broad-billed prion found at Otaki Beach, after a 10-day storm from the Antarctic forced exhausted seabirds onto land. It is estimated that up to 350,000 prions perished in this storm, making this the largest seabird wreck in New Zealand history.
Within three days more than 1000 live prions had been handed into wildlife centers in the Wellington region.
Installation of 100 Prion's included in NATURal WORLD curated by Janet Bayly, Mahara Gallery 2012.
